BOOKS
“Drumming
at the edge of Magic”
By: Mickey Hart. The meaning of drumming (or life?) comes
in many forms, and many disguises. As Hart begins to unlock
the secrets to why humans desire to express themselves in
music, one can't help but say, "YES!". Hart, and
to a certain extent, Jay Stevens, put into words what drummers
and other musicians have felt all along but have never known
how to express. |

MUSIC
Afro Celtic Sound System Vol 1
This is quite simply a highly essential album from an extremely
unique group who fuse seemingly opposite cultures together:
Celtic strings & African drums! This album started it
all. The music is very traditional and has little of the
electronic mayhem of their following albums |

Hello,
As
President of The Drum Café California, it gives me great
pleasure to
welcome you
to the first edition of Drum Café Rhythms, our monthly
newsletter reporting on
the power of music, drumming, and interactive
team building. Here, you’ll
meet the people behind the drums and
keep up with our bass beat.
For those of you new to the Drum
Café we are a company that builds and
transforms teams, one drum beat at a
time. Armed with a traditional African
style drum, rattle
or shaker,
participants at a Drum Café event are led by
a group of master drummers and talented facilitators. They
are encouraged
to listen to each other, play to the same beat,
create their own unique
music and just have fun.
The
nonverbal communication that is the drumming
provides
a
powerful,
unifying message that transcends language,
gender,
culture, and age barriers. Participants walk away from
an interactive
drumming event exhilarated and empowered. The effects of a Drum
Café experience continue to be felt long after the drumming
has stopped.
I
am always filled with joy to see how the power
of
drumming brings diverse people together. It’s nothing
short of remarkable to watch people communicate
on new levels and see the barriers that traditionally hinder
productivity, broken down.
Whether
the group is an audience of 1100 Sisters, Cardinals, Priests,
and
healthcare executives joining their drumbeats in a shared mission
(Catholic
Health Association’s 90th Assembly in San Diego) or
175 Motorola
engineers in a sales kick-off meeting, the energy and spirit
in each venue
is invigorating and empowering.
After
many years of involvement in interactive team building and corporate
entertainment, the thrill I get from facilitating our interactive
drumming events
continues to grow. I want to thank all who have participated
in our events for
sharing your passion, your rhthym and bringing so much joy and
fulfillment
to my life.
Welcome to our family, enjoy the reading, and feel free to let
us
know what you
think by clicking on YOUR
BASS BEAT.

San
Diego, a city that is home to a multitude of cultural
influences,
presents a unique opportunity for companies to achieve
productive
growth by promoting communication and breaking
down barriers
between cultures, races, and genders.
Drum Café is deeply
committed to taking up that challenge
using the potent voice of
the West African drum.
Through
the powerful tools of rhythm and musical communication,
ethnic
differences become a unifying force and multicultural
barriers
are drummed out of the workplace. By integrating
ancient
African traditions of community building, mutual
support,
collaboration, and cooperation into the American
corporate
setting, Drum Café helps companies, organizations,
and
individuals find common ground.
